Coalition shifts focus from Olympics to bringing other competitions to Nevada

With the U.S. Olympic Committee bagging a U.S. bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics, a coalition of winter sports enthusiasts will focus instead on attracting other sports competitions to the state, including the possibility of bringing a curling event to Las Vegas.

Sunday's ceremony from London will still air on a tape-delayed basis on NBC in prime time. For the opening ceremony, NBC took some heat for not making the event available to anyone in the United States for hours after the fact.

UNLV’s Amanda Bingson finished 13th in her heat of the women’s hammer throw Wednesday morning at the London Olympics. Bingson threw 67.29 meters, well off the mark needed to advance to the finals. Fellow Americans Amber Campbell (69.93) and Jessica Cosby (69.65) finished sixth and seventh, respectively, in the other heat. The top four from each heat advanced to the finals.
