Valley High senior Garic Wharton II remembers the first sheet of paper that mapped his path to a college scholarship. He was a freshman and it was a report card, decorated from top to bottom with C's. And his father, Garic Wharton, was having none of those grades.

Do not mess with the Las Vegas Wildcats when they are angry. All week the Wildcats had to relive their narrow loss to Del Sol last Thursday and swallow the reality of breaking an 11-year, 30-game undefeated streak against Henderson teams. That disappointment over last week's performance boiled over Friday night as Las Vegas unleashed its wrath on Valley Friday night with a 48-6 blowout.

Valley High junior Garic Wharton’s time of 10.39 seconds in the 100-meter dash Friday during the large-school state track meet at Del Sol shattered a two-decade old record of 10.54 seconds set by Las Vegas High’s Charles Smith in 1983.
