Valley coach Marcus Sherman wasn’t planning on getting much sleep Friday night. He couldn’t imagine doing anything other than thinking about his team’s 35-34 victory over Rancho. The Vikings won one of the more memorable high school football games in Southern Nevada history in five overtimes.

Canyon Springs (5-2, 5-0) received a minor scare Friday with Valley (1-7, 1-5). The Vikings played right with the Pioneers for most of the night and had the lead for a while in the game. But Canyon Springs eventually prevailed in a 20-6 win behind a defense that caused five turnovers.

High school football players throughout the Las Vegas Valley will wear pink-ribbon helmet stickers and other pink colored accessories tonight in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The helmet decals are compliments of the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas, which also provided cheerleaders with pink hair ribbons and a handful of fans with awareness shirts.
