There were two plays most indicative of today’s game at Spring Valley High. The first was Spring Valley’s first offensive play, which they fumbled. That turned into a field goal from Del Sol High.

Perhaps Mojave really is that good. The Rattlers slithered off their second impressive win in as many weeks Saturday, nearly blanking upper-classification Spring Valley 27-6.

Like many coaches, Valley High’s Marcus Sherman had an idea what his first class of upperclassmen would look like. He’s entering his third season at the helm of the Vikings’ football program, and the players who started off with he first took over the program as freshmen and sophomores have grown up into juniors and seniors. With that in mind, Sherman is expecting his team to take the next step: make the postseason.

Blessings come at the most random times. That’s the feeling of the Spring Valley football team heading into this season after making an unexpected addition in the form of a quarterback this summer. Senior Brant Berglund, who transferred from Highlands Ranch in Colorado, enrolled at Spring Valley two months ago and promptly won the starting job.
