Bishop Gorman allotted no time for celebration after getting out of the first round of the playoffs unscathed. As soon as Bishop Gorman wrapped up its 56-0 trouncing of Spring Valley, the Gaels shifted to their focus to next week’s matchup.

Cody Alfar rushed for 192 yards with three touchdowns to help Shadow Ridge pick up a 32-7 victory over Spring Valley. “He’s a hard-nosed kids who runs the ball hard and worked hard in the weight room,” Shadow Ridge coach Frank Tousa said. “He wants the ball, and he wants as many carries as he can get.”

Like many coaches, Valley High’s Marcus Sherman had an idea what his first class of upperclassmen would look like. He’s entering his third season at the helm of the Vikings’ football program, and the players who started off with he first took over the program as freshmen and sophomores have grown up into juniors and seniors. With that in mind, Sherman is expecting his team to take the next step: make the postseason.

After the Shadow Ridge High football team dropped its final game of last season to finish with no wins, coach Frank Tousa told the players during his postgame talk that next year would be different. “We set a goal last November with these kids to make the playoffs,” Tousa said.
