The gymnasium at Pahrump Valley High is packed with 50 of the school’s football players on this summer day. Dressed in shorts, T-shirts and running shoes, the athletes enthusiastically go through a series of conditioning drills designed to improve strength, endurance and flexibility.

Pahrump Valley High has not won a football game in two years. In its first year in 4A last season, the Trojans went 0-9 and lost by an average of 35 points. But a new season bring optimism for the Trojans, who like every team in town, enters the season with a fresh slate.
