Palo Verde’s defense posted four shutouts last season. The Panthers look like they’ll break that impressive mark with ease in 2011. After Friday’s 48-0 win against Mojave, Palo Verde has held two opponents scoreless and only given up seven points to Arbor View.

When the Mojave High football team takes the field this fall, it will be looking to erase its image as one of Southern Nevada’s underachieving programs. The Rattlers have made one playoff appearance since the school opened in 1996. But after reaching the postseason in 2007, they have posted a 2-27 record in the three years since while being outscored 1,063-192.

Mojave coach Tyrone Armstrong has preached adopting a new demeanor to his team throughout summer workouts. Armstrong is tired of the Rattlers occupying the bottom of the standings every year. He wants 2010 to be the year Mojave changes it.

Cheyenne finished off its divisional schedule with a 27-0 victory against Mojave on Friday. The Desert Shields improved to 5-4 and clinched a playoff spot with the win.
