Virgin Valley quarterback Garrett Leavitt threw for 343 yards with three touchdowns in a 27-0 victory over Mojave in the first round of the Division I-A playoffs. Devonte Milligan caught five passes for 162 with two touchdowns. Dee Bowler also eclipsed the 100-yard mark, catching eight passes for 112 yards.

Despite some unexpected ups and downs this season, Mojave will host a home playoff game for the second straight year. The Rattlers earned that right emphatically Friday night, smashing the host Pahrump Valley Trojans 49-0.

The Mojave High football team won its third straight game Thursday, using a key interception from Marcus Parker inside the Mojave 10-yard line late in the fourth quarter to fight off visiting Clark, 19-14.

Ty Flanagan rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns today on eight carries, helping the Mojave High football team defeat Cheyenne for the first time in school history, 22-8. Mojave coach Joe Delgado said his team was 0-9 lifetime against Cheyenne, a fact not lost of most at Mojave — from administrators to students, it was a night to remember.

Mojave blanks Western to snap skid

The Mojave High football team snapped a three-game losing skid today, beating host Western, 61-0. Ty Flanagan rushed eight times for 183 yards and three touchdowns, and Elijah Smoot rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown on eight carries.

Casey Hughes had a pair of long touchdown runs today for the Legacy High football team in a 27-6 victory against host Mojave. The Longhorns (2-1) led just 7-6 at halftime, but closed with 21 unanswered points in winning the Thursday Night Lights televised game.

Moapa Valley High is still the team to beat in the Division I-A. The Pirates were expected to receive a challenge today from Mojave, which gave them a big-time scare in last year’s playoffs. However, the Pirates scored the game’s initial five touchdowns in a 35-6 victory.

The 2012 season was a coming out party for the Mojave High football team. The Rattlers made the postseason for just the second time in the school’s near two decades of existence and was able to capture the first playoff win in program history. “It meant a lot getting to playoffs and overcoming the season prior to it. It meant that the turnaround school wasn’t just education wise, but athletic wise,” Mojave coach Joe Delgado said.

The Moapa Valley High football team typically wins games behind the running of senior tailback Conner Mortensen. However, he’s not the Pirates’ only capable rusher. Take Friday night’s 36-32 victory against visiting Mojave to send the Pirates to the state semifinals for the seventh straight season as an example.

Mojave made history in more ways than one Friday night. Not only did the Rattlers host the first playoff game in school history, they also won it. For the second time this season, Mojave beat Desert Pines.
