Chaparral High School football player Toure Williams can’t get this image out of his head. Not in the minutes after his team lost last fall in the “Cleat Game” to rival Eldorado High, and not one year later as the teams prepare for this year’s installment of one of Southern Nevada’s longest and most storied matchups, dating back nearly four decades

Del Sol overcomes slow start, penalties for lopsided victory against Eldorado

high school football:
Don’t let the final score fool you. The Del Sol High football team’s 40-6 victory Friday against visiting Eldorado was anything but leisurely. The Dragons had to overcome numerous penalties (eight in the first half alone) that halted scoring drives, their quarterback fumbled a snap on the goal line going in for a touchdown and their holder consistently struggled getting the ball down on extra points.

O'Darius Mitchell, Eldorado defense come up big against Boulder City
Saturday, September 3, 2011
high school football:
Football coaches usually preach the importance of defense and special teams winning games, but it gets beyond stressful when it comes down to those two units. Eldorado coach Vernon Brown could talk all about it after Friday night’s 16-13 victory over Boulder City.

Eldorado players starting to develop confidence, competitive attitude
Tuesday, August 23, 2011
high school football:
Replacing a three-year starter at quarterback is a challenge any high school program struggles with. But, at Eldorado, coach Vernon Brown is taking a pro-active approach. Yes, JaQuorrey Williams was their best player last year. However, he wasn’t their entire team — a message Brown has been stressing to his players during the off-season.

prep recruiting: St. Louis running back shined at Oregon State, helping make Las Vegas a must-stop on the recruiting trail
During a ceremony Friday at the Orleans Arena to induct Steven Jackson into the Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame, the St. Louis Rams running back was praised for his many successes on the gridiron. For Las Vegas area high school football players, Jackson’s most significant accomplishment was simply excelling at the next level. Before Jackson burst onto the scene at Oregon State, Southern Nevada was lightly recruited and several players with college-level talent went under-recruited. But after Jackson shined with the Beavers, college coaches made sure Las Vegas was included on the recruiting trail.

Southern Nevada Sports Hall of Fame will also induct 1944 Las Vegas High team this June
The achievements of this high school football team seem almost unreal. The Las Vegas High 1944 state championship squad surrendered no points — not a touchdown, field goal or safety — and didn’t allow an opponent to record consecutive first downs, going undefeated in eight games. Offensively, they never threw a forward pass — a rarity, even then.
