Almost no one found a way to slow Bonanza’s offense last season. The Bengals scored 29 points per game behind nearly 1,300 yards rushing from DaSean Martin and nearly 1,500 yards passing from Sterling Sprau.

Bishop Gorman’s homecoming game couldn’t have gone any better. The Gaels (7-0) pounded the Bonanza Bengals (3-4) early and came away with a 72-0 victory. Both of Gorman’s star running backs, Shaquille Powell and Victor Belen, scored three touchdowns.

Going into their final two regular season games last season, the Bonanza High Bengals were rolling. They had won six straight games, were headed to the playoffs and believed they could play with anyone. Then, Bonanza ran into Spring Valley and Bishop Gorman and lost by a combined score of 79-14 in the two games. They closed the season with a third straight defeat, falling in the Sunset Regional quarterfinals to Cheyenne.
