A celebration of this nature has become common for the Liberty High football program. The Patriots' won their fourth-straight Sunrise Regional championship. Patriots’ coach Rich Muraco, still dripping wet after players drenched him in water, was interviewed by one reporter after another. He was asked about Liberty’s string of championships and what’s been the key to their dominance. However, the coach is quick to point out the whole story.

Before the Faith Lutheran High football took the field for practice Tuesday, players and coaches gathered in the endzone for a few minutes of devotion. That’s how practice starts each afternoon at the Summerlin school. The Crusaders don’t stretch or go through other warmup routines without a religious lesson and prayer. And not just a prayer recited from memory — it’s something meaningful to their journey, on the field and in life. The Moapa Valley High football team’s undefeated season came to an end today, with the Pirates falling 34-24 to host Churchill County of Fallon in the Division I-A state semifinals. Despite having eight turnovers (including six interceptions), the Pirates (11-1) had a chance to win late in the fourth quarter.

The Faith Lutheran High football team forced three turnovers today against visiting Lowry High of Northern Nevada in the Division I-A state semifinals, including an interception by Vinny DeGeorge with 24 seconds remaining to seal the Crusaders’ 16-8 victory.

high school football: Gators force seven turnovers against the Wildcats
Albert Lake and Kyler Chavez split the headlining duties. Between the two of them, they performed just about everything that could possibly be done on a football field. The Chavez and Lake Show, in the end, delivered Green Valley to a 47-34 victory over Las Vegas High in the second round of the playoffs.

The Liberty High football team prevailed in more than its share of close playoff games in winning the past three Sunrise Regional championships. So, when the Patriots trailed visiting Canyon Springs by a touchdown today entering the fourth quarter of the Sunrise semifinals, it would be easy to assume the experience of previous playoff runs would give them an edge. That wasn’t the case.

Bishop Gorman allotted no time for celebration after getting out of the first round of the playoffs unscathed. As soon as Bishop Gorman wrapped up its 56-0 trouncing of Spring Valley, the Gaels shifted to their focus to next week’s matchup.
