Sunrise Mountain High School opened in 2009, and its sports teams struggled for the first several years of the athletic program’s existence. But lately, the Miners have enjoyed some success, and their coaches and principal attribute that to the culture of togetherness as much as to physical performance.
An altercation at the end of last Thursday’s high school basketball game between Chaparral and Sunrise Mountain has resulted in both teams forfeiting two games, said Ray Mathis, the Clark County School District’s executive director for instructional support and student activities.
