HS BASKETBALL:
What a difference a week makes. The Liberty High basketball team lost all four of its games last week during the Foothill Holiday Classic, dropping two contests by two points and staying close in all four defeats in showing they were close to breaking through.

In case anyone needed a reminder of how dominant last year’s state runner-up was, Canyon Springs provided it Tuesday night against Liberty. The Pioneers used a relentless defensive effort to frustrate the Patriots and take an impressive 101-58 victory.

HS BASKETBALL:
About half of the players in Liberty’s rotation have already made a deep postseason run this year. Ty Byrd, Daniel Filimona, Jeremy Lagasca and Kai Nacua all played significant roles on the Liberty football team that advanced to the state semifinals. Liberty coach Pat Welby hopes they bring the same mentality to the hardwood.
