unlv football: Desert Pines High defensive back could become next Rebels to go from under-the-radar to key contributor
Tuesday, February 4, 2014
Tim Hough didn’t play for a powerhouse high school football program. In fact, his Desert Pines High team competes in one of Nevada’s lower classifications. The wide receiver and defensive back wasn’t a highly sought after college recruit — UNLV was his only scholarship offer. Hough is one of about 15 players expected to sign with the Rebels Wednesday during national signing day, and his commitment falls perfectly in line with coach Bobby’s Hauck recruiting philosophy.

Centennial made 5 of 6 of its 3-pointers in the first quarter, leading the host Gaels by one point after the initial eight minutes. That would be all the success Centennial would have. Gorman dominated the interior most of the night with junior post Chase Jeter scoring a game-high 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds, helping the Gaels pull away for a 73-50 victory.

They were supposed to be the Bishop Gorman High basketball team’s new “Big Three.” After the Gaels graduated a trio of top-100 recruits two seasons ago, 2015 classmates Nick Blair, Chase Jeter and Stephen Zimmerman were expected to emerge as the Nevada power’s new threesome of elite players. Jeter and Zimmerman have lived up the billing, becoming five-star recruiting prospects and two of the best players on the court each game. Blair clearly is a step behind. But that’s starting to change this season with the 6-foot-5 wing cracking the starting lineup and showing off his off-the-charts athleticism. It’s because ...

Bishop Gorman High’s Noah Robotham buried a 3-pointer from the corner, quickly hustling back on defense and not realizing the significance of his shot. In a game of big plays, blue-chip recruiting prospects and much anticipation, it was Robotham — then a freshman — with one of the most memorable plays. He just didn’t realize how crucial his shot was, which tied the game against Findlay Prep at 83 with seconds remaining in double overtime at the sold-out Cox Pavilion during the 2011 rivalry game between the nationally respected local programs.
