Willis key to UNLV’s strong finish against Louisville
Nov. 30, 2009
It wasn’t the best first half Saturday afternoon for UNLV junior guard Tre’Von Willis, but he capped it with a flourish and had a sterling second half. His game buoyed the Rebels to a stirring 76-71 victory over the 16th-ranked Louisville Cardinals and arguably represents Willis’s finest stretch for UNLV.

UNLV forward Brice Massamba and the rest of the Rebels celebrate their 76-71 win against 16th-ranked Louisville on Saturday at the Thomas & Mack. It was the Rebels' second defeat of the Cardinals in two years.
Now, Rebels must build on big Louisville win
Nov. 30, 2009
Most everybody agrees UNLV’s 76-71 come-from-ahead victory over No. 16 Louisville at the Thomas & Mack Center Saturday was big. But how big? It was big enough game that the student body was in full force despite it being on a holiday weekend. But when it was over, when Oscar Bellfield finally put his foot on Louisville’s collective throat, there was a hesitation. Do we rush the court or not?

Nov. 29, 2009
As he did on New Year’s Eve in Kentucky, UNLV guard Oscar Bellfield again rose to the occasion against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. The Rebels had frittered away all of a 19-point lead when Bellfield came to their rescue and steered UNLV to a 76-71 victory.

Nov. 29, 2009
Now, those remaining within the UNLV football program can at least sit and wait for impending change with smiles on their faces. The Rebels sent their senior class — along with fired fifth-year coach Mike Sanford — off with a win, defeating San Diego State 28-24 in comeback fashion on Saturday night at a sparsely populated Sam Boyd Stadium.

Pitino doesn't consider loss to UNLV a total loss
Nov. 29, 2009
Louisville coach Rick Pitino has been in the college game long enough to know when a loss isn't a total loss. In his book, Saturday's 76-71 loss at UNLV fits in that category of the not-so-bad.

The UNLV defense smothers San Diego State running back Brandon Sullivan during Saturday's game at Sam Boyd Stadium.
Notebook: With finale now in the past, focus shifts solely to program's future
Nov. 29, 2009
As soon as Ryan Lindley's last-second heave for San Diego State hit the turf on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium, a new era in UNLV football began. Who will lead the Rebels into the future? Well, that's yet to be determined. Still, the fact that UNLV has yet to decide who will be its 10th football coach in program history — or the school's new athletic director, for that matter — hasn't deterred those set to return for the Rebels from thinking forward.

San Diego State running back Walter Kazee out runs the UNLV defense for a big gain during the season finale for both teams Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium.
San Diego State showed signs of improvement under first-year coach
Nov. 29, 2009
Surrendering a double-digit second half lead against a mediocre opponent isn’t exactly how the San Diego State football team wanted to close the year. But the Aztecs limped into the offseason Saturday with a 28-24 loss to host UNLV at Sam Boyd Stadium, allowing the Rebels to close the game with 21 unanswered points in the game’s final 23 minutes.

Condors edge struggling Wranglers
Nov. 29, 2009
BAKERSFIELD -- The Las Vegas Wranglers fell into an early three-goal hole Saturday night and despite their best efforts to climb out, they now find themselves trapped at the bottom of the ECHL. The Bakersfield Condors rode that three-goal first period to a 3-2 victory over the Wranglers in front of 8,825 fans at the Rabobank Arena. Las Vegas (6-12-1) has now lost seven consecutive games and is tied with Stockton (5-11-3) for the worst win percentage in the league.

Nov. 28, 2009
For all of the drama surrounding the UNLV football program over the past few months — and especially the past few weeks — the 2009 squad can at least say it went out as winners. Omar Clayton struggled for most of the night, but found just enough in his bag of tricks to lead a three-play, 54-yard drive in 34 seconds to push the Rebels over the edge to a 28-24 victory over San Diego State on Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Nov. 28, 2009
The Del Sol High football team could have easily thrown in the towel and called it a season. Nov. 28, 2009
The answer might have come as a surprise to Bishop Gorman fans. Asked which player impressed him most on a day where his team’s offense exploded for more than 500 yards, Bishop Gorman coach Tony Sanchez named one player whose name didn’t even appear in the box score. “Honestly, the guy I’m really proud of is Xavier Grimble,” Sanchez said. “People have spent so much time focusing on him and trying to take him away that it’s just completely opened up the run game.”

Bishop Gorman crushes Reed to head to state championship
Nov. 28, 2009
