The Gold Spike reopened this week with a surprising addition: slot machines. Technicians on Tuesday morning wheeled some 10 or more machines out of a truck and onto the floor of the business, which closed April 21, less than a month ago after being purchased from Siegel Group Nevada Inc. by Downtown Project investors. After the sale was completed, Tony Hsieh, Zappos CEO and one of the Downtown Project partners, said it would not reopen as a casino.

Gaming industry sees biggest revenue gains since recession

The U.S. casino industry captured $37.3 billion in gaming revenues in 2012, a 4.8 percent increase from 2011. hat growth rate is largest since the recession swept through the industry in 2008, according to the American Gaming Association.

The Oasis casino and Resort in Mesquite will be demolished, one building at a time, starting Saturday. Lunas Inc of Las Vegas will complete the demolition, which involves leveling several buildings over the course of three months.

MGM Resorts International reported its best quarter in five years Thursday. Chairman and CEO Jim Murren reflected on the good news and looked ahead to MGM's next big task: developing an outdoor dining, retail and recreation plaza on the Las Vegas Strip.

Slot machine cheat considered for Nevada’s Black Book

A convicted slot machine cheat has been nominated to by the state Gaming Control Board to the state’s Excluded Person List — the so-called Black Book of people not allowed to step foot in a casino. The three-member board today nominated Roderick William Dee III to the list.

Boosted by an all-time earnings record at its CityCenter development and its best-ever first quarter in Macau, MGM Resorts International shifted from the red to black for the quarter that ended March 31. The Las Vegas-based company today reported net income of $22.6 million, 1 cent a share, on revenue of $2.54 billion. That compared to a first-quarter loss of $203.3 million, 44 cents a share, on revenue of $2.47 billion for the same quarter a year earlier.

The race to roll out the first legal, real-money poker website in the United States is over — and it ended in Nevada. Station Casinos on Tuesday launched a 30-day trial of UltimatePoker.com, which allows in-state gamblers to play online poker from computers or mobile devices. “It’s a new day in online gaming,” Ultimate Poker Chairman and Founder Tom Breitling said. “Nevada is first, and Nevada should be proud.”
