Early life: Wanted to be a comedian by the age of 6.
Early career: Worked in advertising after college. First performed in in New York City at the comedy club of one of his advertising clients, calling himself the Reverend Dr. George Wallace. Lived with Jerry Seinfeld, who was also getting his start in comedy. Moved to the West Coast in 1978, where he worked as a writer for The Redd Foxx Show, then became a regular for The Comedy Store and served as the opening act for several performers, including Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and Donna Summer.
Mid-career: Was named Best Male Standup Comedian in 1995 during the American Comedy Awards. Has also had his own HBO special, performed on several TV shows, including "Seinfeld," "The Parkers," "Moesha," "The Tonight Show," "Oprah," "Hollywood Squares," "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Scrubs." Also performed in several films, including "Batman Forever" as the mayor of Gotham City.
Current status: Has performed since 2004 in his own show at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, where his contract was extended indefinitely.
