Early career: He formed a band, Bluesology, in 1964 with his friends and backed acts such as Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles and The Isley Brothers. He began going by Elton John in honor of Bluesology saxophonist Elton Dean and English blues singer Long John Baldry.
