Suspect in Henderson double slaying arrested in California after shootout

Updated Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018 | 7:25 p.m.

A suspect wanted in a double slaying in Henderson was arrested on Wednesday in Southern California after allegedly shooting another person and getting into a chase and shootout with authorities, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Around the same time, a Facebook user with the same name as the suspect streamed himself live being apparently chased by authorities and firing rounds from his windshield.

Roger Tindell, 36, who was wounded in the shootout near Yucca Valley, Calif., was in the hospital but expected to survive, authorities said. An FBI-led task force was searching for him, although details about the Henderson case were not immediately available.

Henderson Police on Wednesday evening identified Tindell as the suspect in the slaying of a man and a woman, whose bodies were found late Friday at a home in the 400 block of Forest Street, near Major Avenue and Warm Springs Road.

Details publicly released on that case were limited and police only said the victims had suffered apparent head injuries.

About 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, sheriff’s deputies responded to a location in Yucca Valley where a 43-year-old man had been shot and a woman, 24, was taken by Tindell in a silver BMW, authorities said. The man’s condition was not provided.

A person told deputies the suspect was armed, authorities said. A short time later, deputies located the vehicle and tried to stop it, but Tindell kept driving, authorities said.

Sometime during the chase, which lasted several minutes, Tindell opened fire on deputies, who returned fire, authorities said.

Eventually, Tindell, of Morongo Valley, Calif., crashed into a squad car, officials said. He continued shooting and was wounded when deputies opened fire, authorities said.

The female victim in the BMW was not injured but was taken to a hospital for evaluation, authorities said.

Behind the wheel and with a bandanna covering the lower half of his face, Facebook user Roger Tindell grabbed his phone and documented about seven minutes of an intense ordeal as a woman sat in a vehicle with him. In the beginning, the man referenced Southern California. “I just want to shoot this video to let all my fans out there know that full rights to my full-fledged video ... are available here soon.”

“I have a hostage — say your name,” the man tells the woman. “I’m sorry about this Ms. (redacted) and I know we know each other … but you were at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

When a deputy approached and told its driver to stop the car, the man yelled expletives, saying he was going to kill the pregnant woman. Later in the video, the woman tells the man he was going to leave her child without a father.

Their relationship wasn’t clear, and it’s not clear how authorities deemed her a victim, but at some point, the woman encourages the man to “just drive; quit slowing down, just go, dummy.”

Later, the woman tells the driver to shut up and focus, but also yells “dude” at him when he grabbed a gun. She began to sob when he fired five rounds.

A couple of hours before, the same user had posted another video on Facebook in which he apparently smoked marijuana and loaded a gun and tinkered with it as he was getting dressed.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman would not comment on whether the agency was aware of the video or if the Facebook user and their suspect is the same person. The agency also does not release booking photos, she said.

In Henderson, Tindell is facing two counts of murder, and in California he was expected to face counts of attempted murder and chase- and shooting-related charges.
