For the second straight week, Basic faced an up-and-coming team on a win streak.

For the second straight week, the up-and-coming team on a win streak failed to score. Basic stifled host Bonanza 60-0 Friday night seven days after similarly suffocating Desert Oasis 50-0.

“We’re very happy with our defense,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said. “We pulled the starters at halftime and stressed that we wanted to keep the shutout.”

The defense got in on the scoring too against the Bengals. Basic recorded three safeties on the night in addition to forcing a couple turnovers.

Deondre Ishman and Brian Evans each had interceptions. Montana Gomez knocked through two first-half field goals for the Wolves, which led 35-0 at halftime.

Aeneas McAllister, Sean White and Trace Evans all had rushing touchdowns.

Basic held Bonanza to 74 yards of offense. But it might be tough to keep their defensive streak alive next week, with a trip to Arbor View in a likely showdown of top-five ranked teams.

“It’s going to be fun,” Cahill said. “It’s going to be a game for us, and I’m sure for them too. It’s going to be a heavyweight battle.”
