Senior running back Daniel Godfrey scored four touchdowns to lead Sierra Vista (1-2) to its first win of the season Friday night.

Godfrey finished with 11 carries for 144 yards and two scores on the ground, and two catches for 88 yards and two receiving touchdowns in the Mountain Lions’ 56-6 blowout win over Western (0-3).

There were plenty of yards and points to go around for Sierra Vista, who went into the locker room with a comfortable 40-6 halftime lead.

Junior quarterback Oscar Aliaga completed 10-of-15 for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Andrew Dunn caught only two passes, but turned both into touchdowns.

“We had a couple of tough losses in our first games,” Sierra Vista coach John Foss said. “We were right in the games but didn’t make the plays when we needed to. So it’s nice to get going in the right direction.”

Sierra Vista lost its first two games to Moapa Valley (1-2) and Desert Pines (3-0), who played in last year’s Division 1A state championship. But the schedule won’t get any easier for the Mountain Lions, as they travel to Mojave (2-1) next week.

As for Western, the Warriors have lost their first three games by a combined score of 166-20, and will host Pahrump Valley (1-2) next week.
