Basic slows Desert Oasis to a halt in blowout victory

Basic high football players Tank McAllister, Sean White, Kendahl Blakely, Jake Walderon, and Saul Arizaga before the 2015 Season.

A lot of people around town may regard Basic foremost as an explosive offensive team.

Not the Wolves themselves.

“We actually have more kids back on defense than offense,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said. “We always thought defense was going to be our strength.”

The Wolves showed as much Friday night in shutting out Desert Oasis for a resounding 50-0 victory. Linebackers John Funaki and Teyjean Thomas stymied a Diamondbacks rushing game that had put up big results through the season’s first two weeks.

The offense wasn’t shabby either with running back Jake Waldren scoring two touchdowns on the ground and Xavier Caduto adding another. Aaron McCallister threw a long touchdown pass to Alex Holm.

“We were flying around the field and playing intense the whole game,” Cahill said.
