letter to the editor:

Federal Reserve should be audited

Kudos to Sen. Rand Paul for introducing his Audit the Fed Bill, SB 264.

This bill calls for a long overdue comprehensive audit of the Federal Reserve System. Republicans attempted to push through such an audit in 2012 and 2014. These attempts with bipartisan support got through the House of Representatives but got sidelined by Sen. Harry Reid, the then-Senate majority leader.

Many of President Barack Obama’s top officials would be nervous should an audit of the Federal Reserve move forward. Should not our president, with his self-professed most transparent administration, welcome such an audit?

With Reid out of the picture, Sen. Mitch McConnell, now majority leader, should have no problem advancing this legislation through the Senate. My prognosis is that the bill will be sent to and then vetoed by Obama. Some transparency, huh?
