The Culinary and Bartenders Unions have reached a tentative agreement with the MGM Grand for a four-year contract renewal, union representatives announced today.

The new contract will cover approximately 4,000 members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 and Bartenders Union Local 165 who work as bartenders, food and drink servers, cooks, porters, guest room attendants and other hospitality positions at the Strip resort.

The agreement, which was reached at 5 a.m. today following a 15 hour negotiating session, largely reflects the contracts the two unions have established with other local MGM Resorts International properties. The deal is expected to be ratified within the next two weeks, though a specific date has not been confirmed.

The new contract includes changes allowing for the reopening of restaurants and the return of laid-off workers. New housekeeping standards were also established to improve working conditions for guest room attendants. Workers will keep their existing health insurance and pension.

“We are pleased to have a tentative agreement with the MGM Grand,” Culinary Secretary-Treasurer Geoconda Arguello-Kline said in a statement. “This contract reflects what can happen when labor and management come together to make sure workers can do the best job serving the millions of people who visit Las Vegas every year.”

The two unions are affiliates of national service and hospitality Unite Here and represent more than 55,000 workers in Las Vegas and Reno.
