4 shot to death in high-crime Indianapolis neighborhood

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Police Chief Rick Hite says three women and a man have been shot to death in a home in a high-crime Indianapolis neighborhood.

Hite says the shootings don't appear random and likely occurred Tuesday morning.

Police spokesman Officer Christopher Wilburn says officers were called to the house about 9:45 a.m. after the homeowner discovered the slayings.

Charles Richardson is among people gathered at the scene. Richardson told the AP his 58-year-old sister lives at the house and discovered the bodies. He says his 32-year-old niece also lives there, and that her three children weren't home at the time.

Authorities haven't released other details about the victims.

Hite says his department has targeted the city's northern neighborhood for greater law enforcement because of the high crime rate there.
