Police: Man breaks into home, stabs woman as toddler sleeps

Metro Police released this composite sketch of a man they say broke into an apartment and stabbed a woman on Feb. 25, 2015.

Police have released a composite sketch of a man they say kicked in an apartment door in broad daylight and stabbed a woman, who was critically injured.

The woman was attacked just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 25 in the 2900 block of El Camino Avenue, near Rancho Drive and Sahara Avenue.

Metro Police said she was home with a sleeping toddler when she heard a knock on the door of the apartment. Before she could answer, a man kicked in the door and attacked her with a large knife, police said.

The child wasn’t hurt.

The man fled before officers arrived.

The man is believe to be in his mid 30s and of average height and build. Police said he appeared to have a light complexion, significant acne on his face and a thin mustache. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt.

A motive for the attack is unknown, police said.
