Driver suffers head injury in two-car crash near Windmill and Eastern

A man suffered a critical head injury Saturday morning in a car accident in the southeast part of the valley, Metro Police said.

At about 6:20 a.m., police responded to a two-vehicle crash near Eastern Avenue and Windmill Lane, just west of Firethorn Lane, Lt. Terry Bernard said.

A 2013 Chevrolet Cruze was changing lanes from the middle lane to the right lane while traveling east on Windmill Lane, police said. The driver was approaching a private driveway in the Eastwind Center Shopping Plaza west of Firethorn Lane.

A 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix was westbound in the center two-way turn lane of Windmill Lane when the driver made a left turn into the path of the Chevrolet, police said. The right front of the Chevrolet struck the right front of the Pontiac.

The impact tossed the driver of the Pontiac around in his car, causing him to strike his head on the windshield on the passenger side, Bernard said.

The driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, but his current condition is unknown. The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
