A man is clinging to life this morning after being stabbed by his roommate’s ex-boyfriend, Metro Police said.

Police were called just after midnight to the victim’s home at an apartment complex in the 6300 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard, near Torrey Pines Road, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The victim’s roommate told police her ex-boyfriend, 31-year-old Juan Carlos Rivera-Abarca, knocked on the front door of their home, and when Rivera-Abarca came to the door, the suspect attacked him, authorities said.

The victim remains in critical condition at University Medical Center.

Meltzer said Rivera-Abarca stole his ex-girlfriend’s car and drove away from the apartment complex. At about 4:45 a.m., he crashed into another vehicle at Decatur Boulevard and Pennwood Drive, police said.

Rivera-Abarca was arrested on counts of attempted murder, burglary and grand larceny auto, police said.
