Study: It stinks being a football fan in Las Vegas

UNLV Rebels fans watch a game against the Northern Illinois Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas. The Huskies won.

Las Vegas is a great place for a lot of things — world-class entertainment, gambling, nonstop partying — but football isn’t one of them, at least not according to WalletHub’s study of the best and worst cities for football fans.

The study of 142 cities with at least one college or pro team ranked Las Vegas dead last. Ouch.

Cities were ranked based on 11 key metrics, including the performance of their teams (thanks, UNLV, 2-11 last year).

Other metrics included the number of championships and division championships won, number of sports bars per capita and fan friendliness and engagement based on Twitter followers and Facebook likes (Las Vegas ranked last in that category, too).

Las Vegas came in behind other sucky cities for football fans such as No. 141 Tulsa, Okla., No. 140 Mobile, Ala., and No. 139 Akron, Ohio.

The No. 1 city for fans — no big surprise — is Green Bay, Wisc., home of the Green Bay Packers and their fanatical cheeseheads.

Super Bowl contenders the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots saw their cities come in at Nos. 13 and 9, respectively.

The cities included in the analysis are mapped below.
