Program will help low-income families buy homes

CARSON CITY — The state Board of Finance today approved the sale of $40 million in bonds to help low- and middle-income families buy their first homes.

CJ Manthe, administrator of the state Housing Division, said the program could help an estimated 350 families finance homes.

The money — in the form of grants or loans — will help with down payments and provide a lower interest rate of 4 to 4.5 percent on loans. It can also be used to cover things such as inspection fees and closings costs.

The program will also focus on helping military veterans, Manthe said.
