Pahrump woman, 58, dies after wrong-way crash

A 58-year-old Pahrump woman died Saturday afternoon, three days after the pickup truck she was driving traveled the wrong way on State Route 160 and hit a sedan, Nevada Highway Patrol said.

Julia Shoup was pronounced dead Saturday at University Medical Center, Nevada Highway Patrol said in a media release.

She was driving a silver 2014 Toyota Tacoma headed north near Calvada Boulevard in Pahrump when it crossed the center median and entered the southbound lanes, Nevada Highway Patrol said.

The Tacoma struck a silver 2007 Saturn sedan that was headed south, and both cars spun, the statement said.

The Saturn ended up partially in a right-turn lane, and it struck the rear of a gray 2015 Chevrolet Malibu, officials said.

Shoup was not wearing her seatbelt and was airlifted to UMC, the statement said.

This was the first fatal accident investigated by Nevada Highway Patrol-Southern Command this year.
