NHP car struck over weekend was hit twice, officials say

A trooper suffered minor injuries after his Nevada Highway Patrol car was struck twice within about an hour Saturday, officials said.

A Nevada Highway Patrol Ford Crown Victoria was parked on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes of U.S. 95, south of Eastern Avenue, as a 34-year-old male trooper investigated crashes in the area, NHP said in a media release.

A speeding green Honda sedan headed south struck the patrol car about 11:50 a.m. as well as a silver Saturn SUV involved in another crash, the release said.

The accident caused damage but no injuries, the release said.

Officials say that is when a gold Ford 500 driving too quickly for road conditions struck a blue Toyota Camry about 12:30 p.m. before hitting the patrol car and flipping over, the release said.

The trooper was treated for minor head injuries at University Medical Center, was released and is now resting comfortably, the release said.

The two women in the Ford 500 were also hospitalized at UMC with injuries considered nonlife-threatening, the release said.
