letter to the editor:

Las Vegas is the most hypocritical

In the article “Year in Review: Fourteen in 2014” (Las Vegas Sun, Dec. 31), Alan Feldman said what he most likes about Las Vegas is, “It’s the least hypocritical place in the universe.”

I’d argue it’s the most hypocritical.

We’re “Sin City,” yet pot is illegal here while it’s legal in Colorado and Washington.

Gay marriage was banned because it was “immoral,” and it’s only OK now because of the courts.

Over 90 percent of the citizens want a lottery, but the casinos won’t allow it.

Las Vegas Sands Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson wants online gambling banned.

And the casinos say prostitution is bad even though they allow hookers to freely roam their floors. Billboards drive up and down the Strip constantly advertising them. Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman wanted to make it legal downtown, but Steve Wynn and others said it would “ruin our reputation.” That’s odd because every person I know across the country already thinks it’s legal here.
