Letter to the editor:

Curing diseases bad for economy?

What would happen to the U.S. economy if all of a sudden our scientists discovered a cure and preventative sera for cancer, diabetes and the common cold?

Many medical establishments, equipment-making firms and millions of individuals connected to these diseases would be out of work. Those five rows of drug-related products and their vendors would soon disappear from your local supermarket shelves. Human life would be extended, and this would also be a burden on our economy.

My personal belief is the economy would really tank. Maybe this is why our scientists are constantly trying to create life-extending remedies rather than a permanent cure.

Life-extending remedies are a constant for drug manufacturers, so why kill the goose that lays the golden egg?

It is amazing that we can clone life, break down the human gene structure, suddenly cure some Ebola victims, find ways to prevent AIDS and many other disease outbreaks over the years. Are cancer, diabetes and the common cold the bank that is too big to fail?

The reason our elected officials won’t enact laws to outlaw smoking, obesity, polluters and other known disease creators is also understandable. They are more concerned about their job than they are about a wholesome, healthy life in America.

The amazement of this ball of wax is how our elected officials, the greatest producers of propaganda, deceive the voters into thinking they are doing what is best for us and not for themselves.
