Updated Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 | 3:56 p.m.

A Boeing 737 that departed McCarran International Airport this morning turned back and safely landed after reporting a flight-control issue, an airport spokeswoman said.

American Airlines flight 1476 departed for Miami about 11:15 a.m. but reported the problem while in flight and headed back, McCarran spokeswoman Christine Crews said.

There were 118 people aboard the plane, American Airlines spokesman Andrew Christie said.

The plane touched down at 12:50 p.m.

The Clark County Fire Department inspected the plane and declared it safe at 12:55 p.m., Crews said.

The plane was removed from service for inspection by a maintenance crew, and passengers were put on other flights, Christie said.
