Applications being accepted for District Court vacancies

CARSON CITY — Attorneys can start applying for appointment to replace three District Court judges who were elevated to the new Nevada Court of Appeals.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection said today it will accept applications until Jan. 28.

Clark County District Court Judges Abbi Silver and Jerome Tao and Douglas County District Court Judge Michael Gibbons were appointed to the Court of Appeals and took the oath of office Monday.

Those applying must have at least 10 years of legal experience, including a minimum of two years in Nevada.

The commission will submit a list of nominees to Gov. Brian Sandoval, who will make the final appointments.

The commission said it has tentatively set March 16 for interviews in Las Vegas of those applying for the Clark County positions. It tentatively set Feb. 23 for interviews in Carson City for the replacement of Gibbons, who was named chief judge of the Court of Appeals.
