Things are warming up in the Las Vegas Valley after a chilly start to the new year.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of about 60 degrees today and temperatures reaching about 65 degrees Tuesday, meteorologist Justin Pullin said.

Highs should remain in the 60s through the weekend, he said.

Last week, overnight lows dipped into the 30s, and snow flurries fell across the valley on Wednesday.

The valley can expect a low of about 43 degrees tonight and 46 degrees Tuesday and lows in the mid 40s through the end of the week, Pullin said.

A high of 57 degrees and low of about 39 degrees is normal for this time of year, he said.

The warm weather arrives as Las Vegas marks the anniversary of its second biggest snowstorm on record.

From the afternoon of Jan. 4, 1974, to the morning of Jan. 5, 1974, 9 inches of snow were recorded at McCarran International Airport, the National Weather Service said.

Though there may be a few high clouds throughout this week, no precipitation is expected for the valley, and no snowfall is in the forecast for Mount Charleston, Pullin said.

Temperatures on Mount Charleston should reach the mid to upper 50s this week, with lows in the mid- to upper 30s, Pullin said. The weather is expected to cool down on the mountain on Friday and into the weekend, he said.
