Chair, vice-chair named for Nevada health exchange board

The Silver State Health Insurance Exchange Board has elected new leadership following two member departures.

Leslie Johnstone, a board member since 2011, was elected chairwoman, replace outgoing Chairwoman Barbara Smith-Campbell.

Marie Kerr has assumed the vice chair role, filling the post previously held by Lynn Etkins. Kerr also has been a board member since 2011.

Smith-Campbell is retiring from the board to focus on expanding her private company, and Etkins is leaving to accept a position in California.

“This is going to be a very exciting year for me, as I have been working on a merger for my company for the last six months,” Smith-Campbell said in a statement. “I can’t begin to appropriately thank everyone who has assisted us in this successful transition. I am excited about my new business venture and feel I am leaving the Exchange in a good place.”

Johnstone is executive director of the Health Services Coalition, a nonprofit representing self-funded employer and labor trust health plans covering 270,000 people in Southern Nevada.

Kerr, who has practiced law for 14 years, is a partner with Kerr IP Group LLC, and chief financial officer for NexRf, a technology startup based in Reno.

The board consists of five voting members and three non-voting members.
