Number of Nevada employers hits record high

Nevada’s employer count hit a record high in the fourth quarter of 2014.

The number of employers in the state grew to 61,200 from October to December last year, Nevada’s Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation reported Monday.

That’s up from the previous high of 60,600 in the second quarter of 2008.

That number plummeted to 56,300 by 2011 as the economic downturn took hold. The overall average employer count for 2014 was 60,200, marking a 7 percent increase from the recession low.

DETR Chief Economist Bill Anderson said the trend was consistent with other recent measures of improvement in the state’s labor market. The state’s unemployment rate, for example, has been halved to 6.8 percent since the end of the recession, and nearly 100,000 new jobs have been created, he said.
