Attorney General Adam Laxalt will appear before the House Judiciary Committee next week to discuss a Nevada-backed lawsuit against President Barack Obama's new immigration deal.

Laxalt will be joined by three legal experts from South Texas, Florida and Missouri at the Feb. 25 hearing in Washington, D.C.

The lawsuit's Republican supporters were dealt a victory on Monday when a Texas federal judge temporarily halted the president's executive actions granting deportation relief to millions of undocumented immigrants.

Laxalt brought Nevada into the Texas-led lawsuit last month, and it became the 26th state to legally challenge Obama's deal. He controversially joined the suit without the support of Gov. Brian Sandoval, and the move made political waves in Nevada. Laxalt and Sandoval's own Republican Party was split, with some backing Laxalt and others arguing that litigation was not the right way to challenge the president's deal.

“This lawsuit is ultimately about the rule of law, not immigration," Laxalt said in a prepared statement. "(It's about) the need for all branches of our government, including the president, to faithfully follow the law.”

The suit has the backing of House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who issued a statement this week praising Monday's court decision.

"President Obama’s executive overreach on immigration poses a clear and present danger to our Constitution," Goodlatte wrote.

The hearing will air live on the Judiciary Committee's website at 10:15 a.m. Feb. 25.
