Wreck closes southbound Rainbow at Tropicana

Two people were injured this morning when an SUV and a car collided in the southwest valley, Metro Police said.

Police received a report about 9:40 a.m. of a collision in the 5100 block of South Rainbow Boulevard, north of Hacienda Avenue, according to a Metro news release.

An investigation indicates a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe traveling north on Rainbow Boulevard crossed into the southbound lane, striking a 2002 Volkswagen Beetle, police said.

The 57-year-old woman driving the Beetle suffered substantial injuries, and a 49-year-old woman driving the Santa Fe was moderately injured, Metro Police said.

Both were transported to University Medical Center, police said.

The vehicles also sustained major damage.

The southbound lanes of Rainbow at Tropicana Avenue were shut down following the crash, police said.​
