Pedestrian killed crossing Boulder Highway in Henderson

A local man was hit and killed by a vehicle Saturday night while crossing Boulder Highway, according to Henderson Police.

The man, 34, was hit about 8:30 p.m. by a southbound two-door car. He was attempting to cross Boulder Highway at Gibson Road. The man was crossing in a crosswalk but against a steady red signal and a "don't walk" sign when he was hit.

The man died at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol are not considered to be a factor in the collision; the driver stayed on scene and voluntarily submitted to blood testing. A preliminary investigation also indicated speed does not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The crash remains under investigation. The roadway was closed for about three hours while fatal accident investigators conducted their investigation, according to a police report.

Twenty-three people have died in traffic-related fatalities valley-wide so far this year.
