Henderson Police get $610,000 grant to catch online criminals

Henderson Police will receive a $610,000 grant to catch criminals selling stolen property online.

The grant was awarded through the Smart Policing Initiative, a program in the Department of Justice that seeks data-driven approaches to fighting crime. Henderson Police will use the grant to create a data-mining tool to identify criminals selling stolen property on the Web.

“In today’s 21st century world where cybercrime is increasingly prevalent, our police departments need all the resources available to them to fight this new kind of crime,” U.S. Sen. Harry Reid said in a statement announcing the grant.

The tool will also help improve efficiency in locating stolen property online, according to Reid’s office.
