Nevada colleges get $10 million job training grant

Nevada’s community colleges received a $10 million federal grant to bolster job training programs, according to Gov. Brian Sandoval’s office.

The U.S. Department of Labor awarded the money to the state’s community college consortium. The grant, known as the Trade Adjustment Community College and Career Training Program, will help train students for jobs in the energy industry, IT, health care and advanced manufacturing. The money will allow schools to partner with businesses to provide the training.

Every county and their respective community colleges will benefit from the grants, according to a release from the governor’s office.

Western Nevada Community College in Carson City, the College of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas, Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno and Great Basin College in Elko will receive funding. The exact distribution of the money has not been disclosed.

“Partnerships between our community colleges and our business community are a cornerstone to a vibrant, sustainable economy,” Sandoval said in the release.
