After a scoreless first half, Desert Pines’ Gianni Breland accounted for three touchdowns in the second half in a 26-20 victory against host Boulder City.

Breland had about 100 receiving yards and caught two touchdown passes from Markell Grayson. He forced a fumble on defense and returned it for a touchdown for his other points.

Desert Pines led 26-6 with about three minutes remaining. Boulder City, however, closed with 14 unanswered points to make things interesting. Desert Pines recovered an onside kick to seal the victory.

“I was really happy with the second half. The kids stepped up to the challenge,” Desert Pines coach Tico Rodriguez said. “But Boulder made a strong push at the end.”

Desert Pines improved to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the Division I-A Sunrise.
