The lights went out after the first play of the third quarter today in a high school football game at Durango High School. After a near 30-minute delay, Basic stuck to its running game in the second half to easily beat Durango, 54-19.

Basic had seven rushing touchdowns, including two apiece from quarterback Aeneas McAllister and Sean White. D.J. Thomas added a 7-yard rushing touchdown and Josh Villaros had a 76-yard kickoff return to help Basic improve its record to 3-2.

Basic opens league play next week against Green Valley in the Henderson Bowl. It’s one of Nevada’s best rivalries and the most important game on the Wolves’ schedule.

“I told the kids after the game that the Henderson Bowl will be more intense than any game they have played in this year,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said.
