CARSON CITY — A gold mining company has agreed to pay a $182,000 federal fine for failing to correctly report releases of chemicals such as arsenic and cyanide that could threaten water supplies at a site 50 miles north of Eureka.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said today the penalty was imposed on Veris Gold USA, a subsidiary of Veris Gold Corp. of Canada.
The agency said the company failed to correctly report chemical releases at its Jerritt Canyon mine.
