A teenager riding in the bed of a pickup truck was critically injured early Saturday after a rollover crash in the east valley.
The incident happened around 2:55 a.m. at Nellis Boulevard and Sahara Avenue, Metro Police said. A 2000 GMC Sierra carrying six people was making a left turn onto Sahara from southbound Nellis when the driver, 19-year-old Jesse McNeil, lost control. An investigation found that the truck flipped over as it hit a curb, ejecting two passengers who were riding in the truck's bed.
One of those ejected, 19-year-old Austin Pugh, suffered critical injuries and was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Three of the occupants sustained minor injuries, Metro said. The rest were uninjured.
McNeil failed a sobriety test and was arrested on a DUI count, Metro said.
The crash is still under investigation.
