letter to the editor:

History shows Iran can’t be trusted

In 1985, the United States made a secret arms sale to Iran despite an arms embargo. President Ronald Reagan went on to say the sale, which became part of the Iran-Contra affair, was made in hopes of the release seven U.S. hostages in Lebanon, and to repair animosity between the U.S. and Iran.

Now we hear that Iran has troops (Quds Force) fighting in Iraq at the same time the U.S. is bombing suspected ISIS targets.

Its a strange relationship between the U.S. and Iran, which supplied the improvised explosive devices (IED’s) responsible for about one-third of all U.S. casualties in Iraq during our nearly nine years of war in that country.

Once Iraq is put on stable ground, I wouldn’t expect Iran to act any different toward the U.S. than it has directed our way over these past 35 years.

The outcome of the Iran-Contra Affair is a clear example of how Iran can’t be trusted, no matter what they say.
