Receding floodwater surrounds a home in Moapa, Monday, Sept. 8, 2014. Flooding throughout the area damaged homes and roads.

Assessors say they have counted nearly 140 homes damaged by Monday's flooding in the Moapa Valley region, and more than $1 million in damage has been done to roads maintained by Clark County.

Clark County says that 48 homes were damaged in Overton and Logandale and 91 homes suffered damage in the town of Moapa and on the Moapa Band of Paiutes reservation.

The Clark County Department of Public Works estimated that flooding caused more than $1 million in damage to roadways maintained by Clark County, which includes an estimated $427,000 worth of damage and debris cleanup costs in Sandy Valley. Roads in Moapa experienced about $424,000 in damage while those in Logandale and Overton have $243,000 worth of damage.

According to Clark County spokeswoman Stacey Welling, the numbers may change as the Nevada Division of Emergency Management continues its work.

Welling said the county hopes to have preliminary results of an assessment available by Tuesday, when the county will consider declaring a state of emergency to qualify for access to state and federal funding.

According to Welling, the Department of Public Works estimates that significant cleanup and repair following the flood will take about 30 days.

The county says that the most severely damaged road it maintains is Moapa’s Henrie Road, a two-way road that lost pavement in several areas. The road is now open, though motorists are being directed around potentially dangerous areas.
