The playoffs won’t begin until next week in high school football’s Division-I.

Yet, tonight’s regular season finale will have that postseason feel. The schedule worked out this fall where champions of each of Southern Nevada’s four leagues in the Division I will be decided in the final week.

It doesn’t get any better than in the Northwest League, where Arbor View and host Centennial — two undefeated teams — are playing for the league title and home field advantage in next month’s playoffs.

Arbor View defeated Centennial 35-7 last year. But in the 2012 playoffs, Centennial got the best of its Northwest Las Vegas neighbors in hard-fought 14-9 victory.

In the Southwest League, Summerlin rivals Bishop Gorman and host Palo Verde renew their rivalry in the regular season for the first time in nearly a decade.

Thanks to realignment, the perennial powers are now each part of the Southwest, meaning arguably the state’s most significant rivalry game could be played twice this fall. The winner captures the Southwest crown and No. 1 seed in the Sunset regional; the loser is a No. 2 seed and two wins away from a playoff rematch.

Palo Verde was the last Nevada team to defeat five-time defending state champion Gorman, smashing them 50-14 in 2008. The 2009 and ‘10 games between the two were closely contested, but Gorman has won convincingly — by the running clock mercy rule the past two seasons — the past three games.

On the other side of town, determining a league champion might involve a tiebreaker.

If Las Vegas High beats visiting Liberty, it wins the Northeast League. But if Liberty prevails, and Canyon Springs defeats Silverado, the league champ and No. 1 playoff seed will be determined by a tiebreaker. Under that scenario, Canyon Springs, Las Vegas and Liberty would each have 3-1 records.

In the Southeast League, Green Valley (3-0) can win the league crown outright with a victory against Foothill. But if Foothill wins, and Coronado beats Basic, then there’s another three-way tie with Green Valley, Coronado and Foothill.

So, yes, it should be a fun night.
